Rebekah Elgin-Council
Rebekah currently serves as the Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama.

She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Alabama and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.  She is very active in her community and serves on several boards including Oakworth Capital Bank, Alabama Symphony Orchestra, UAB Visual and Performing Arts, the Birmingham Museum of Art Advisory Board and the World Games 2022 Organizing Committee Board. 

Rebekah is also a member of the Rotary Club of Birmingham and serves on the University of Alabama’s College of Arts and Science Leadership Board and the Board of Visitors for the Culverhouse College of Business. She is a sustainer with the Junior League of Birmingham and an alumnae of Leadership Birmingham and Momentum Leadership programs.

Why have you decided to serve as a Torchbearer for the JLB?
When Jenifer Kimbrough, Leigh Davis, Jenna Bedsole, Jenny McCain and Lindsey Tanner ask - the answer is yes.  These women are my friends, my mentors and are all strong leaders in our community.  It is my honor to follow in their footsteps and stand on their shoulders for this important initiative.  It is what the Junior League of Birmingham and the One Place Metro Alabama Family Justice Center is about: Women supporting each other and leaders working together to make our community a better place to live for all citizens.

What/who inspires you to be a Light in our community?
There is a verse in the Bible that says “to whom much is given, much will be required,” and I believe it is incumbent on each of us who have been blessed with opportunities, means and influence to use it to improve the lives of others.  My mom and dad raised me to see service of others as a privilege.
