Why have you decided to serve as a Torchbearer for the JLB?
My wife, Lauren, has been involved with the Junior League for ten years.  I remember very clearly how excited she was following the meeting where this project was announced.  As she explained to me about One Place being the beneficiary of the funds raised – I simply could not comprehend, as a husband and a father of two girls, the impacts felt by those involved with a domestic violence situation and the despair they must feel in finding help.  As Lauren completes her final year of service, I am so proud of the energy, intentionality and devotion she has put forth in her time working with the League.  So, my decision to serve is simply to thank her for service to the League and the League for the positive impact they have on our community.

What/who inspires you to be a Light in our community?
There are several reasons for my inspiration, but learning the concept of serving others and the community started with my upbringing.  My parents raised their children to understand, serve and respect a world that was much broader than the environment in which we lived.  My upbringing was further reinforced by my Catholic high school education where we learned why we were called to service and how we do it.  Today, I am grateful to work for Brasfield & Gorrie where servicing our community and investing in the greater good of Birmingham is a cornerstone to our company’s purpose.  My wife, Lauren, had a similar upbringing and support system and we very much want our children to recognize, through our actions, the importance of service and investing in communities in which they live (which will be Birmingham, of course, because we are not going to let them leave this fantastic city on the rise!).
