Why have you decided to serve as a Torchbearer for the JLB?
Probably like most people, I am a little overwhelmed when deciding how to spend my time and money. There are so many deserving causes, and I often think “how will I make a difference?” The Junior League of Birmingham had an incredible impact on changing this thought process in my life. As a young adult new to Birmingham, I had limited knowledge of the needs of the community or the organizations focused on meeting those needs. The Junior League helped me understand the needs of Birmingham and helped me get involved in the community right away. I am honored to have the opportunity to give back to the League and help support the Community of Lights Centennial Campaign. This Campaign is a wonderful example of the power of one united through the League.

What/who inspires you to be a Light in our community?
Single parents inspire me. Being a parent teaches you so much about time management, patience, and humility. At least once a day I think “how do people do it?” How do single parents do it? The answer is simple, we all love our children. We want to protect them and hopefully make their lives better. I’ve been given a lot of opportunities in life and believe it is my responsibility to help create opportunities for others. Supporting One Place is a way for me to give back to the parents who need help in our community.
